L.A.s Prajna Yoga is the name Registered Yoga Teacher Linda S. Alexander has chosen for her business to reflect her friends' favorite nickname for her and her yoga mentor's name for a style of yoga that he developed incorporating the wisdom and experience of many styles of yoga practice.

Linda brings a diverse set of skills and experience to yoga teaching. She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and earned her M.D. at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia. From there she went on to Residency training at a tertiary referral hospital outside of Philadelphia and is a Board Certified Internist. She has always been most interested in preventative health care and was the director of an employee health and wellness facility at a major corporation based outside of Philadelphia until 1994 where she also began the study of mortality and risk analysis. In 1994 she was recruited by CIGNA Corporation to join their Life Insurance division, Connecticut General Life. She continued in the field of mortality risk analysis working with actuaries, underwriters and product managers to determine which factors best predicted favorable life expectancies and which factors were detrimental. One of the most enjoyable parts of her job involved providing medical education and training to those who needed this knowledge to do their own jobs. Following a series of mergers and acquisitions she became Vice President and Chief Medical Director of Lincoln Financial Group with offices in downtown Hartford, CT and numerous other locations.

Over the years through her own pursuit of continued good health and fitness, Linda became interested in the study and practice of yoga. She became a serious student in January 2001 and met her current mentor, Tias Little in January 2004. Since that time she has completed 200 hours of accredited yoga training and is a registered yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance. Currently she has is working towards hr advanced level certification. She has experience in teaching yoga since September 2004 and recently retired from Lincoln Financial Group to devote more time to pursue her passion.

Linda notes that there are many types of yoga and ways to practice, but her special interest is in utilizing yoga to develop both physical and mental strength and endurance and in making it accessible to people who are currently at varying levels of physical fitness. She also notes that yoga can be a valuable tool in preventing and treating osteoporosis. Linda has been amazed at how powerful yoga can be and notes what a difference it has made in her own life. She hopes to share her knowledge and experience with others and invites the curious to contact her to learn more about what yoga can do for them.
